Description
Arch Lodge is a former lodge to Westwood Hall, dated 1852. It was almost certainly designed by the architects Hadfield, Weightman and Goldie for John Davenport. The building is constructed of red sandstone ashlar and features plain-tiled roofs in a Jacobean style.
On the exterior, there is a tower over the former driveway, accompanied by a two-storeyed single-window range. The tower has a segmental archway with a hoodmould above it, and a paired string course that defines the upper stage. The date 'Anno Domini 1852' is displayed in low relief between the string courses. A five-light mullioned window with a round-arched central light is located above the archway, featuring leaded lights. The two-storeyed flanking wing includes a four-light mullioned window on the ground floor, a three-light mullion above, and a gabled dormer with heavy kneelers leading to copings at the rear. The original entrance is located inside the tower, while the current entrance is in a later wing beyond. The interior has not been inspected.
