Description
No. 138 Buxton Road is a house built around 1880 by William Larner Sugden, likely for WS Brough, a local silk manufacturer. It is designed in the Queen Anne style and features brick construction with decorative half-timbering and a plain tiled roof.
The house has two storeys and a three-window arrangement, consisting of two prominent gables connected by a narrow entrance range. The central doorway is set back in a porch with a balcony above. The entrance has a panelled door with a small central light. On the ground floor, there are five-light mullioned and transomed windows on either side, an oriel window to the left, and a four-light mullioned window to the right. Above the doorway, there is a small two-light window and French doors leading to the balcony. All windows have leaded glazing. The first floor jetties out and features square panelled framing with arch-bracing, while the eaves overhang and include bargeboards. At the rear left, there is a three-storeyed stone and brick service wing that is offset. The interior has not been inspected.
