Description
The cross, located approximately 10 meters to the west of the tower of the Roman Catholic Church of St. Giles, was designed by Augustus Welby Northmore Pugin between 1841 and 1846 for the Earl of Shrewsbury. It is made of red Hollington sandstone and features a square, four-tiered, stepped plinth. The cross has a niched and crested surbase, a square shaft with crocketed, diagonal angles, and a crucifix set about 4 meters above the ground. The crucifix is topped with a pitched hood and is flanked by figures on the branches of the cross head.
