Description
Alton Bridge, located in Alton Parish, is a road bridge built in the early 19th century. It is constructed of ashlar stone featuring edged parallel tooling and rock-faced outer abutments. The bridge has a single segmental arch that spans the River Churnet. The inner abutments are designed with channelled rustication that curves around to large pilasters topped with panelled and pyramidal caps. The bridge also features a roll-moulded parapet string and a balustraded parapet.
