Description
The Birdcage is an early 19th-century gazebo located in Alton Park, Farley. It features an octagonal plan with an ashlar base and a central octagon that has a door on the east side. Access to the outer arcade is provided by two steps, and this arcade is supported by timber columns with cusped braces extending to the wall plate. The structure is topped with a hipped roof that has a cupola, which includes traceried openings and a weather vane. The Birdcage is an important element of the garden layout at Alton Towers, which is recognized as Grade I on the Historic Buildings and Monuments Commission Gardens Register.
