Description

Walton Hall, now Walton Hall Special School, dates from circa 1848 and is built in a classical style. The building is constructed of ashlar, with a rusticated base. The main wing is two storeys high and features a central three-light window, two windows to the left, and one to the right, all set within moulded architraves. The central and outer windows are distinguished by cornices resting on consoles and pediments. A doorway is positioned within a dog-eared architrave and contains an eight-panelled divided door, accompanied by a large stone porte-cochère. Three stone-cased dormers, each topped with a pediment, are also present. The building has a moulded frieze and modillion eaves cornice, and a hipped slate roof. A one-storey projecting wing is situated on the left-hand side, with a further brick and ashlar wing extending beyond, both likely additions from the later 19th century.
