Description
21 and 22 Greengate Street is a house that has been converted into an office. It dates from the early 18th century, with a facade that was reconstructed in the early 19th century and later altered in the late 20th century. The building is made of brick and features a coped tile roof. It has three storeys and a two-window range. At the top, there is a modillioned timber cornice. The ground floor has a late 20th-century inset front with two recessed small-paned bow windows; the right window includes an entrance and a top entablature. The upper windows have sills and consist of 4:16:4-pane tripartite sashes, with pilasters and entablatures that project forward over the centres. The first-floor window on the left is a canted oriel with similar detailing. At the rear, there are two gabled wings; the left wing is taller, while the right wing is longer, and there is a 19th-century single-storey addition. Inside, there is an 18th-century open well stair featuring turned balusters, square newels, and a moulded handrail.
