Description

The Staffordshire County Staff Club is a mid-18th century house that has been converted into a club. It is constructed of brick with plaster dressings and features a tiled roof with brick stacks. The building has a central bay flanked by timber-framed cross walls and follows a double-depth plan in the Georgian style.

The exterior is two storeys high with an attic and has a six-window range. It includes a plaster plinth and a platt band above the ground floor, as well as boxed eaves. The entrance, which is round-headed and located to the right of the centre, features a doorcase with fluted pilasters, entablature blocks, and an open pediment. Above the six-panel door is a fanlight with radial glazing bars. The windows have sills and are topped with rubbed brick flat arches over 12-pane sashes. The attic contains three gabled dormers and small-paned casements. The rear of the building has two gabled wings, with the right wing featuring a later extension.

Inside, there is an open-well staircase with a cut string, column-on-vase balusters, a ramped moulded handrail, and fielded panelling. The rear room to the right has early to mid-18th century panelling with tall panels above a dado rail, two arched alcoves flanking a 19th-century marble fireplace, and one six-fielded-panelled door with H-L hinges.
