Description
Pasturefields Bridge Number 77 is a canal accommodation bridge built in the late 18th century. It is constructed of brick with stone coping and features a single span with a humped back and a segmental headed arch. The bridge has swept wings that terminate in piers at all four corners, and it includes stone springing stones. There are stone plaques at the crown on both sides of the bridge, and a wooden post with a cast iron guard plate is located at the edge of the jamb on the northwest towpath side. The bridge has undergone minor repairs. The Trent and Mersey Canal, for which this bridge was built, was constructed between 1766 and 1777 by James Brindley and Hugh Henshall.
