Description

House. The building largely dates to the 19th century, though it incorporates a 16th-century timber-framed core of cruck construction. The outer walls have been rebuilt in brick and plastered, with a plain tile roof. A brick central stack is present. It is a two-cell range aligned north-south, facing west, with a small annex of 17th-century origin at the northeast corner. Originally designed with a baffle entry plan and a main entrance to the west, the current entrances are located to the north and to the southeast. The house has one storey and an attic, featuring two 20th-century casement windows and an attic dormer. The rear annex retains an early 19th-century window with Gothic glazing bars and displays an exposed 17th-century roof truss. Inside, a central cruck truss is visible, with the upper roof truss joined into the tops of truncated crucks. There are two early 17th-century panelled doors, along with a chamfered spine beam with run-out stops and joists. Additionally, an open fireplace with a timber bresummer is found in the southernmost ground floor room.
