Description
The gazebo, or summer house, located approximately 100 metres south of Somerford Hall, dates from the mid to late 18th century and is likely contemporary with the hall itself. It is constructed of brick in Flemish bond, which is partly painted or limewashed, and features sandstone dressings. The roof has been removed. The structure has an octagonal plan and is attached to the kitchen garden wall of Somerford Hall, positioned above the hall garden ha-ha. It has three open sides with Gothick ogee arches that contain a trefoil inner order, supported by clustered stone shafts. The acanthus finials break the moulded stone string, and there is a complex moulded cornice, although fragments of the parapet are mostly dislodged.
