Description
Black Ladies is a country house dating from the late 16th century or early 17th century, with 20th-century renovations. It is constructed of red brick with ashlar dressings and features a clay roof with crow-stepped gables and clustered brick stacks. The building has a T-shape plan, with the main range facing east and a long service wing at the rear. It stands two storeys high with an attic and has slightly irregular fenestration. There are semi-octagonal turrets on the left and right, each topped with hipped roofs, and two large crow-stepped attic gables in the centre. The windows are mullioned and transomed, and there is a central 20th-century porch.
Inside, the house features floor-to-ceiling oak panelling in the ground and first-floor rooms, a heavy oak staircase with twisted balusters and carved decoration, and a restored stone fireplace on the ground floor with a four-centred head. The ceilings have exposed beams.
