Description
Orchard Cottage and Clive Cottage are a pair of cottages located on Clive Road, possibly dating back to the 16th century, with significant alterations made in the 17th century and late 19th century. The cottages are constructed of red brick with an English garden band on an ashlar plinth and bank over the ground floor. They feature tiled roofs with a coped verge on the left side. The buildings are one storey high with an attic and have three bays on the front, showcasing 2-light casements. The half-dormers in the attic have alternate triangular and semi-circular gables that are dressed in stone. A large brick chimney is positioned to the right of the center. At the rear, there is a T-plan extension that reveals substantial timber framing in the gable end, with tension braces supporting the upper panel. Inside, there is a cruck beam incorporated into the left of the center of the main structure.
