Description
Nos. 48 and 49, known as the Cottage of Content, is a pair of cottages that have been combined into one house. They likely date back to the 17th century and have undergone later additions and alterations. The structure is timber framed with painted brick infill in stretcher bond and features a fishscale tile roof with a brick ridge stack. It is one storey high with an attic, which is illuminated by three gabled eaves dormers. The building has three framed bays with rectangular panels, two of which extend from the raised cill to the wall plate. The ground floor has three small 20th-century casement windows and a roughly central door that is sheltered by a late 20th-century porch. At the rear, there is a late 19th-century brick addition that is set at right angles to the main structure.
Inside, the timber frame remains largely intact, although the end walls have been rebuilt in brick. The interior features unchamfered beams and joists.
