Description
Ashley Farmhouse is a farmhouse dating from the 17th century, with later additions and alterations. It features a timber frame with brick gable ends set on a painted sandstone and brick plinth, topped by a clay tile roof with a central brown brick ridge stack. The building is a three-bay lobby-entry type that has been extended and converted. It stands two storeys tall with a gable-lit attic. The timber framing consists of four square panels from the cill to the wall plate, supported by short tension braces. On both floors, there are late 19th-century three-light casements to the left and right of a central door, which is sheltered by a 19th-century gabled brick porch. The porch and gable ends are painted black and white to mimic the timber framing of the rest of the house. At the rear, there are two parallel mid-19th-century brick ranges that are two storeys high and set at right angles to the main building. Inside, the timber frame remains largely intact, featuring moulded joists and beams, as well as massive fireplaces in the ground floor front rooms. In the yard at the back of the house, there is a late 19th-century cast iron water pump.
