Description
The James Brindley memorial is located approximately 10 yards southeast of the Church of St. James in Newchapel, Kidsgrove. This grave slab, which was restored in 1956, is made of stone and features an inscription that reads: "JAMES BRINDLEY / of TURNHURST ENGINEER / was interr'd Sept. 30th 1772 / Aged 56". Additionally, there is a metal plaque attached to the grave that lists some significant events in Brindley's life. This plaque was presented by E.T.D. Warrilow F.S.A., who was the Staffordshire County Secretary of the Ancient Monuments Society. The Church of St. James is not included in this listing.
