Description
The Benbow Memorial is a chest tomb located approximately 15 meters east of the east end of the north aisle of the Church of St Mary. It dates from the mid-19th century and is constructed of sandstone ashlar. The tomb has a rectangular plan and features a moulded plinth and capping with a chamfered top ledger. Fluted corner pilasters enhance its design. The moulded inscription panels on the north and south sides commemorate John Benbow, who died in 1851, and William Benbow, who died in 1855. Additional inscriptions on the top ledger honor their wives, Mary, who died in 1869, and Sarah, who died in 1865.
