Description

Bearstone Bridge is a bridge built in 1830 by Thomas Stanton. It is constructed of grey sandstone ashlar and features a single segmental arch with a stepped extrados. The bridge has a flat string course with a chamfered top, and the parapet curves out at the ends, which are finished with chamfered coping and octagonal end piers topped with pyramidal caps. The builder of the bridge was George E. Hamilton, a Civil Engineer from Wolverhampton. Bearstone Bridge carries the B 5026 road across the River Tern, which at this location marks the boundary between Shropshire and Staffordshire.
