Description

The Rowley memorial is a chest tomb located about 15 meters southeast of the southeast corner of the south transept of the Church of All Saints in Madeley. It dates from the early 19th century and is constructed of sandstone ashlar with a rectangular plan. The tomb features a moulded plinth and capping, along with reeded square corner balusters. The frieze has reeded decoration interspersed with rosettes and urn motifs on the long sides, and scrolled leaf decoration and urns on the ends. The top ledger commemorates John Rowley, who died in 1809, and his third wife. Additional inscriptions on the north side honor his former wife, Elizabeth, who died in 1779, and on the south side, their son, Reverend Samuel Rowley, who possibly died in 1793.
