Description
Boughey's Mill is a water mill built in the early 19th century, with later additions from the 19th century. It is constructed from red and blue brick and features a plain tile roof. The building is aligned east-west and faces north, with an extension to the east. It has three storeys, a central buttress, and a forward projecting eastern extension on the left side, with the space between them filled with corrugated iron sheets. To the right, there is a stable-type boarded door, with a first-floor boarded door above it. There is also a boarded-up window to the left of the ground floor door. A beam at eaves level above the doors is used for a hoist. An attached cottage on the right side is not of special interest.
Inside, the mill contains 19th-century machinery, including a 16-foot, 8-spoke cast-iron overshot waterwheel that is 4 feet wide, an iron pit-wheel, a timber crown-wheel, and a cast-iron wallower. Other machinery includes a sack-hoist mechanism. The launder is overgrown, and there is a mill pool located to the south.
