Description
Whittington House and Elswick House is a house that has been divided into two, dating from the early 18th century with later additions. It is constructed of red brick and features a plain tile roof with coped verges, along with a brick ridge stack and a rear stack. The building is aligned east-west, facing north, with the main house (Whittington House) on the east side and the service area (Elswick House) on the west. A late 19th-century extension, which is aligned north-south, was added to the front of Elswick House.
The main house, Whittington House, is to the left and consists of two storeys and an attic. It has a first-floor band and a coped parapet that ramps down at each end, continuing to the right along the two-storey service end (Elswick House). The service end features a projecting two-storey extension on the left side of Elswick House, which has a dentilled eaves band and coped verges. The building has a five-one-one bay configuration, with casement windows that have segmental heads. Several of the windows on the front of Whittington House are solid walls. Whittington House also has a central half-glazed door that is topped with a bracketed cornice hood. The interior has not been inspected.
