12/34 Former stables and attached gate pier approx. 40 yards north-west of Hamstall Hall 27.2.64 (formerly listed as Range of outbuildings on N. at Hamstall Hall)

Former stables and gate pier. Probably C17 incorporating earlier materials; considerable C18 alterations. Red brick outer walls and timber framed core; plain tile roof. 5 bay range aligned north-east/south-west facing south-east. One storey and loft. 5 segmental-headed doors; large 2-leaf door to the right. Small segmental headed ground floor windows. 2 boarded loft openings to the left. Central gabled loft door. Stone mullioned windows to the rear. Attached gate pier to the south-west of square section with pyramidal cap, which flanks one side of a blocked entrance to the outer courtyard at Hamstall Hall (q.v.). Interior. Timber framed cross walls and some close studded framing to the rear. Cambered tie beams and v-struts above the collars, 2 pairs of purlins and ridge piece; some curved wind braces. Much of this timber is re- used and is probably C16. In the south-west is a reused C15 aisle post with double ogee mouldings which probably come from a new demolished section of Hamstall Hall (q.v.).
