Description
No. 20 Beacon Street is a house built around 1810. It is constructed of brick with ashlar dressings and features a hipped slate roof with brick return stacks. The building has a double-depth plan and stands three storeys high, presenting a symmetrical three-window facade. At the base, there is a stone plinth that tapers due to the slope of the ground, and a top cornice adorned with fluted modillions.
The round-headed entrance is framed by a doorcase that includes fluted Ionic pilasters that taper towards the base, along with an entablature. Above the six-panel door, there is a fanlight with decorative glazing bars. The windows are detailed with sills and rusticated wedge lintels: the ground floor features 12-pane sash windows, the first floor has 9-pane sashes, and the second floor includes casements. The central windows on the first and second floors have architraves, with the second floor's being four-sided. The right return of the house continues the cornice and has a very tall stair window with small-paned glazing.
