Description
No. 1 Whitehall is a former public house, known as the Coach and Horses, which has been converted into a house. It was rebuilt around 1806, with a facade added around 1830. The building is constructed of brick with a scored stucco facade and features a hipped tile roof with a brick cross-axial stack. It is designed in the Georgian style and stands three storeys tall with a four-window range.
The building has a plinth, a first-floor sill band, and a top cornice. The entrance is located at the right end and features a consoled cornice above an overlight that leads to a half-glazed door with a decorative wrought-iron grille. To the left end, there is a segmental-arched carriage entrance with a rusticated arch, a vermiculated key, and a tympanum. The windows have sills and consoled cornices above 12-pane sash windows, although some glazing bars are missing on the ground floor. The second floor has 6-pane sashes.
At the rear, there is a brick cornice, and the ground-floor window features a paired sash with an ashlar lintel. The upper windows have rubbed brick flat arches, with the first-floor left window having an ashlar lintel.
