Description
This house, located on Beacon Street in Lichfield, was likely built around 1815 as part of a project for the Bridge Commission. It is constructed of brick with a plastered ground floor and has a tile roof. The house is three stories high and features a single-window facade. A top cornice is embellished with modillions. The left side of the building has a round-headed entrance with a tympanum above a six-panel door. The ground floor contains a shop-style window with a cornice. Windows on the first and second floors are 3-light casements with small panes of glass; the first-floor window is a 20th-century replacement. The property originally functioned as a toll house for the Bridge Commission, which widened the bridge in Bird Street. Its purpose was to prevent traffic from using Gaia Lane and avoiding the bridge. The building is included on the list primarily for its group value within the historic streetscape.
