Description

This is a cottage dating from the 17th century, with alterations and additions made in the early to mid-20th century. It is timber-framed with brick infill panels, and some brick rebuilding, and has a plain tile roof with a brick ridge stack. Originally designed as a two-cell baffle entry plan house, it has had minor extensions added to the rear and left-hand end.

The cottage is one storey and attic, with three square panels visible under the eaves. It features straight tension braces. There are three 20th-century casement windows on the ground floor, with latticed panes, and a gabled attic dormer to the left of centre. A doorway has been blocked in front of the stack. The right-hand gable displays an exposed collar and tie beam roof truss carrying one pair of purlins.

Inside, a late 17th-century staircase has been re-used and rearranged, and includes turned balusters and a patterned foot newel with a ball finial. A large open fireplace is present, with a timber surround. The interior also features chamfered spine beams with run-out stops and slightly curved wind braces.
