Description

Farmhouse, dating to the medieval period, with significant alterations and refacing in the mid-18th century. The construction is roughcast over brick, with tiled roofs and an end stack on the left. The original layout comprised a hall and a cross wing, with a later extension built beyond the cross wing. The building has a single-storey and attic section and a two-storey and attic section to the gabled cross wing. A segmental-headed casement window is located in the attic, above two similar windows on the first floor. The central entrance features a part-glazed door, flanked by sidelights and an elliptical radial fanlight. A lower wing, containing a single window, is located to the left. A large, gabled dormer incorporates a segmental-headed 3-light casement window, and a similar window is offset on the ground floor to the left. A single-storey, gabled porch with verge parapets is set against the cross wing, featuring a raised string over a shouldered-arch entry with a boarded door. A further two-storey wing extends to the right of the cross wing gable, with a single window on each floor. Internally, one bay of the original medieval open hall remains. It contains a former central cruck truss with hollow chamfer mouldings and stops to the plinth, set against the end gable wall. A partition wall between the hall and cross wing is constructed of square-panel timber framing. On the first floor, a deep arch braced post displays hollow chamfer moulding and run-out stops at floor level, indicating the presence of a former first-floor chamber. The later cross wing incorporates reset 17th-century oak square-framed panelling with an arcaded over-mantel panel.
