Description
Lower Booth Farmhouse is a farmhouse that likely dates back to the 15th century, with later alterations. It is timber framed and features a plain tile roof, along with a brick ridge stack and off-ridge stacks. The building has a T-shaped plan, with a hall range that runs east-west and a two-framed bay cross-wing that is aligned north-south. The gabled cross-wing is on the left, while the hall range is on the right. The farmhouse has two storeys and an attic, with two casement windows. The hall range includes a gabled dormer on the left and a small first-floor casement window above the central door, which has a cambered lintel.
In terms of framing, the cross-wing has closely spaced studs that are interrupted by two rails, a bracketed attic bresummer, and a roof truss with closely spaced studs, a collar, one pair of purlins, and a ridge piece. The hall range also has closely spaced studs, with the left side of the door featuring alternate studs interrupted by a middle rail, while the right side has a continuous middle rail and a straight brace above the door. There is a low lean-to extension on the right side.
Inside, the farmhouse contains a pair of cruck blades of Alcock type F, apex type.
