Description
Nos 125 to 145 on Wellington Street are a range of almshouses built in 1875, designed in the Gothic style. The buildings are constructed from red brick with stone dressings and are primarily single-storey, except for the centre of the middle block, which has two storeys. Each almshouse features a 2-light mullioned window with a pointed arched head. The centre of the outer blocks has a slight projection that includes a gable and a doorway framed in a stone keyed surround, with linked recessed doorways on the sides, all featuring wooden porches. The two-storey middle portion of the centre block is highlighted by a 4-light stone mullioned canted oriel window and, to the right, a pinnacled tower with a 2-light foil-headed opening. The buildings have corbelled brick eaves and slate roofs.
