Description

The iron shelter, dated 1898, is located approximately 300 metres north-west of Ferry Bridge. It is positioned midway along the Stapenhill Viaduct, which serves as the western approach to the bridge. The shelter features an iron structure with sheeted sides and a span roof with gables. It extends across the viaduct and has slender cast iron columns with spike finials at each open end. These columns support a moulded inscribed panel, which is flanked by foliated scroll brackets and topped with openwork cresting.
