Description
No 27 Market Place is a building that serves as shops with accommodation above. It dates from the early 19th century but may incorporate elements from the medieval period. The structure is primarily brick, which may be cladding over remnants of timber framing, and it has a Welsh slate roof. The building is situated on the site of a late-medieval house, likely containing parts of the original structure, including the principal bays of an aisled open hall and the cross-passage, with a spere truss visible in the adjacent property, No 25.
The exterior features three storeys with a regular two-window range. The shop fronts are from the late 20th century, while the upper floor has four-pane sash windows set under wedge lintels. There is a moulded stone eaves cornice and a brick end stack on the left side. The interior has not been inspected.
