Description
Bridge Number 64 off Armitage Road is a canal accommodation bridge built in the late 18th century. It is constructed of red brick with stone coping and features a single span with a humped back and a segmental headed arch. The bridge has swept wings that terminate in piers at all four corners, with stone springing stones. Minor repairs have been made, including the replacement of the top course of bricks on the north elevation using engineering brick. The Trent and Mersey Canal, which this bridge serves, was built between 1766 and 1777 by James Brindley and Hugh Henshall.
