Description
The Old Hall is part of a late 16th-century stone mansion located in Little Wenlock. The southeastern parts of the building were demolished following a fire, and the lower portions of the walls remain in the garden. The building has steeply pitched plain tile roofs with gabled ends. It is two storeys high with an attic, and originally comprised three bays. The left-hand side features a wide, two-storey canted bay window constructed of stone with stone mullions, transoms, and leaded panes. To the right is a mullion and transom window for two lights, and a modern gabled porch. An 18th-century brick addition is located at the rear and includes two gables and a round-arched stair window. Two substantial stacks are positioned at the west end.
Inside, a small room at the rear contains early 18th-century fielded panelling, a bolection moulded fireplace surround with a cast-iron grate, a round-headed cupboard with shell coving, and a moulded plaster cornice with modillions. The staircase balustrade has been renewed, but a fielded panel dado remains. A first-floor room contains fragments of late 16th-century plaster friezes with running vine decoration, along with some 17th-century panelling, moulded plaster ceilings, and heraldic stained glass from 1820.
