Description
The former canal bridge, located immediately southeast of Lilleshall Abbey, dates from around 1768. It was constructed as part of the Donnington Wood canal, which was developed after the formation of the Earl Gower and Company in 1764. Lord Gower, who was the brother-in-law of the Duke of Bridgewater and later became the Marquess of Stafford, had a son who became the Duke of Sutherland in 1833. The bridge features a brick segmental arch and an arched stone string course. The original parapet is missing and has been replaced with 19th-century iron railings.
