Description
The Church of St Luke, built in 1836 by Thomas Smith of Madeley, is a Grade II listed building constructed by a group of ironmasters. This Gothick church is made of buff-coloured brick with stone dressings and features a Welsh slate roof. It has a wide nave that includes pairs of lancet windows with lozenge-shaped pane iron-frame windows, separated by gabled buttresses. The gabled apse has tripartite lancets. The west tower is designed in three stages and includes octagonal angle turrets topped with stone pinnacles and an embattled parapet. It features lancet bell-openings and a clock face below. The west doorway is located at the base of the tower. Inside, there are three galleries and stained glass in the east window, which is probably by Evans. The church is similar in style to Christ Church Wellington, also designed by Thomas Smith.
