Description

The Lodge, now comprising Nos. 41 to 44, is a house dating from around the 16th or 17th century, originally divided into cottages. The west range is constructed of sandstone ashlar, partly rendered, and has a gable-ended roof covered in plain tiles. It is two storeys in height with an attic. Stone mullion windows are present, though the mullions have been removed and replaced with later casements. At the south end of the west range is a gable which is gabled on two sides, featuring circular openings in the gable ends. A large brick stack rises from the centre of the building, and there is one gabled dormer window.

A brick-faced range extends at right angles to the east, and this range may originally have concealed timber framing; it is two storeys in height with an attic, and has two windows. A large, truncated external brick stack is located at the rear. A 19th-century extension is present at the east end.

Inside the west range, the ceilings have stop-chamfered spine beams with run-out stops. It is believed the building was originally a hunting lodge associated with Madeley Court.
