Description
The former Talbot Inn and adjoining warehouse, located on The Wharfage in Ironbridge, dates from the late 18th century. The building is constructed of painted brick and stands two storeys high. It features two sash windows with cambered heads and two plain wood pilaster doorcases, each with rectangular fanlights, small weather-hoods, and flush-panelled doors. There is a 19th-century canted bay window, modillion eaves, brick-coped gables, and end stacks, topped by an old tile roof. To the left, there is a recessed wing with an arched covered way.
The adjoining warehouse projects and has a gabled end facing the road. It is also made of painted brick and rises three storeys, with two sash windows featuring cambered heads and a loading door located at the centre of the first and second storeys.
Historically, this building served as an occasional meeting place for notable figures such as Telford, Wilkinson, and Trevithick, the steam engineer.
