Description

This building, dating to circa 1841, served as Municipal Offices and is later referenced as No 26 within the Ironbridge Gorge Museum Trust. Constructed of buff brick, it is situated on a hillside, presenting a two-storey facade to the road and four storeys at the rear. The front elevation features a projecting gabled bay to the right, with sash and modern casement windows, the sash windows having brick hood moulds above them. The south-facing elevation is more visually appealing, featuring mullioned transomed windows with hood moulds. A semi-circular bay extends three storeys and incorporates an open balustrade at the top, while a two-storey gabled bay projects to the right. The building has modillion eaves and tile roofing. It is noted that Captain Webb, the renowned swimmer, resided here around 1870.
