Description
Caynton House is a red brick house dating from around 1800, featuring painted stone dressings. It has a slate roof with gabled ends, a cornice, and a blocking course. The building stands three storeys high and has a symmetrical facade with two bays on the outer sides and one bay in the center, which is slightly recessed. The windows are sashes with glazing bars set in flat brick arched openings. The wide central doorway is topped with a segmental traceried fanlight and flanked by pairs of Ionic pilasters, leading to a panelled door. On either side of the main structure are recessed two-storey wings, each with a single bay and ground floor windows in segmental arched recesses, topped with cupped slate roofs. Inside, there is a rather plain staircase that runs through all floors. The ground floor rooms feature plaster cornices, although the original chimneypieces have been removed.
