Description
The Burlton Memorial and railed enclosure, located approximately 2 meters south of the nave of the Church of St. Simon and St. Jude, is a pedestal tomb dating from around 1819. It is made of limestone and features a square section with a moulded plinth and capping, topped by an urn-shaped finial that has a scalloped underside resting on two square slabs. The memorial includes moulded inscription panels with a fluted cornice above. The north side commemorates John Burlton and his wife, Elizabeth, both of whom died in 1819. The west inscription honors their son, John Burlton, and daughter, Jane, who both died in 1818. The south side is dedicated to their son-in-law, Timothy Oakley, who died in 1821, and their daughter, Elizabeth, who died in 1822. The east side commemorates John Bookey Griffiths, who died in 1849. The tomb is enclosed by a low railed enclosure on a low chamfered plinth, featuring twisted cast-iron railings.
