Description
This barn, located approximately 20 metres south-west of Moor House, dates from the mid to late 17th century and has undergone some later alterations. It features a weatherboarded timber frame set on a rubblestone plinth, topped with corrugated-iron roofs. The original structure is a three-bay barn from the mid-17th century, which has been extended by a two-bay addition to the west in the late 17th century. Both sections have scattered eaves hatches and doorways.
Inside, the framing is visible, showcasing square panels with three sections from the cill to the wall-plate, supported by long straight tension braces that also define the bay divisions. The rubblestone plinth turns at the point where the original barn ends. The roof is a single-purlin design spanning five bays, featuring a mix of raking struts extending from tie beams to principal rafters, along with queen-strut trusses. Notably, there is a double truss at the junction between the two sections, and a continuous loft is present.
