Description
This is a chest tomb dedicated to Arabella Yate, located 20 meters south-south-east of the chancel of the Church of St Mary in Ashford Carbonell. It dates from the early 19th century and is made of cast iron. The tomb features a plain lid adorned with a cast ornament of an urn and festoon, along with corner rosettes. There are applied iron letters positioned beneath the ornament. The side panels have simple recessed centers, and it stands on a torus-moulded plinth. This memorial commemorates Arabella Yate, who died in 1806, and is noted for being an unusual and early example of cast iron used in funerary memorials.
