Description

This former house, located approximately 22 metres to the west of Nos. 17 and 18, is now partly used as garages and is partly disused. It likely dates from the mid-17th century, with an early 19th-century addition and probable early 20th-century alterations. The building features a cement-rendered timber frame with wattle and daub and red brick infill, along with a red brick addition set on a dressed red sandstone plinth. The roof is covered with 20th-century asbestos slate and is hipped to the west. The framing consists of square panels, and the layout is a baffle-entry L-plan, comprising two framed bays aligned approximately east-west, with a later wing to the south. The house has two storeys.

On the north front, there is a brick stack located just below the ridge, off-centre to the right, and an integral brick end stack for the rear wing. There are two windows; the first-floor windows are missing their casements, while the ground floor features a two-light wooden casement to the left, likely from the early 20th century, and two small blocked windows to the right. A roughly central boarded door provides access.

Inside, there are timber-framed dividing walls, with the ground-floor room to the right showcasing a chamfered spine beam and joists, along with a fireplace that has a brick and dressed red sandstone arch. The eaves of the rear wing have been raised, likely in the early 20th century, as indicated by a change in the brickwork. It is also possible that the eaves of the 17th-century range have been raised, as the entire house appears to have been re-roofed at the same time, evidenced by the presence of sawn rafters. Nos. 17 and 18 are not included in this listing.
