Description
1-8 Claremont Bank is a terrace of eight houses, now offices, dating from around 1830 in Shrewsbury. The buildings are constructed of stucco over brick, with a Welsh slate roof. They are three storeys high, with full basements, and are arranged in pairs which step down the sloping site, each pair forming a six-window range. The ground-floor windows and doors are recessed within shallow arches. Each pair of houses has recessed, fluted Doric shafts framing the paired doorcases, which contain six-panelled doors with overlights. The tripartite sash windows on the ground floor have incised key decoration to the mullions. The first-floor windows are twelve-pane sashes within segmentally-arched recesses. A moulded cornice runs to the eaves parapet, and there are side wall stacks. Throughout the terrace, there are cast-iron area railings. Numbers 5-8 were additionally listed on 30 May 1969.
