GRINSHILL C.P. HIGH STREET (North side)

Garden wall, gate and gate piers approx. 5 metres to south of The Manor House

GV II

Garden wall, gates and gate piers. Wall dated "IK 1694", gate and extension of wall of c.1820. Dressed grey sandstone wall and wrought-iron gates with cast-iron gate piers. Wall approximately 30 metres long and one metre high with chamfered coping. The section of the wall to the left of the gateway is probably early C19 and has no coping but has a chamfered top. Central gateway consisting of pierced square-section piers with fluted plinths and pyramidal caps and pair of gates with acanthus spearhead railings, dog bars and scrolled and ogee braces. The walls and gateway form part of a close group with The Manor House (q.v.). Pevsner quotes the date on the wall as 1624 but this might refer to another date not noted at time of Survey (December 1985). B.O.E., p.135.
