Description

Lord Hill's Column is a monumental column located on Abbey Foregate in Shrewsbury, built between 1814 and 1816. It was designed by Thomas Harrison of Chester, with contributions from Edward Haycock and John Carline of Shrewsbury. The column is made of ashlar and features a giant fluted Greek Doric design, raised on steps that are adorned with lions lying down on a star-shaped stone plinth. A projecting entablature creates a platform that is surrounded by iron railings. At the top of the column, there is a statue of Lord Hill.
