Description
Long Meadow Pear Tree Cottage is a Grade II listed building located in Shrewsbury. It consists of a barn, now a dwelling, and a cottage, primarily dating from the late 18th century, though it may include timbers from an earlier structure on the site. The barn was converted into a dwelling in 1948.
The building features a timber frame with a brick plinth and panel infill, topped with a plain tiled roof. Long Meadow, the former barn, is two storeys high and framed in square panels across 11 bays, with a high brick plinth. A small section of the rear wall has been renewed in brick, likely in the late 19th century. To the right, there is a small store with four bays, where the timber is encased in brick on the front elevation.
A doorway is located to the left within a small gabled porch, which has Mannerist posts believed to have been taken from a house in Dogpole. The building features inserted metal-framed windows on each floor, cross vents in the right-hand section, and in the cross wall that separates the house from the storage bays. There is also a loft door in the right-hand section and an internal queen post roof construction.
Pear Tree Cottage extends from the barn range to the left, featuring a single casement window on the front elevation, with the doorway positioned to the left of the gable wall. A casement window is located alongside and above the door, both with single ring cambered heads. Additionally, there is a blind window in the apex of the coped gable.
