Description
Bridge Number 62, also known as Coachman's Bridge, is a road bridge dating from approximately 1797 to 1801. It forms part of the Ellesmere Canal (Llangollen Branch), constructed by William Jessop and Thomas Telford. The bridge is built of red brick with a stone-coped parapet that terminates in square corner piers. It features an elliptical arch with a string course. This section of the Ellesmere Canal was completed around 1801. The Ellesmere Canal Company merged with the Chester Canal Company in 1813 and subsequently became part of the Shropshire Union Canal in 1846. Minor later alterations have occurred.
