Description

Shoemakers' Arbour in The Dingle is an arbour dated 1679, although it has been relocated from its original site. It is constructed from tooled sandstone and features fluted Corinthian pilasters that support a segmental pediment. The pediment displays high relief figures of St Crispin and St Crispian, the patron saints of shoemakers, alongside a coat of arms, though the figures are somewhat damaged. Below the pediment, there is a semicircular moulded archway that leads to a rustic stone grotto. A plaque inside the grotto notes that the arbour was moved from the Shoemakers' Guildhall to The Dingle in 1877.
