Description

The bandstand, dated 1879, is located in The Quarry, Shrewsbury. It was cast by McDowell Steven and Co of Glasgow. The structure features cast-iron columns and a wrought-iron roof, all resting on a stone base made of vermiculated blocks. The bandstand has a circular base and an octagonal canopy. It is surrounded by cast-iron railings and gates leading to the platform. The columns are adorned with low relief decorative panels at their bases, delicate capitals, and elaborate spandrel decorations that support the bell cast octagonal canopy. The canopy is ribbed with scalloped eaves and is topped with a weather vane. The inner ring of columns showcases superimposed spirals, elongated capitals, and ornate spandrel decoration.
